Domestic flies are grey to black with a single pair of membranous wings being the most common fly species found in houses. Domestic flies neither have teeth nor do they chew solid food because their mouthparts are like a spongy straw. It can see you coming from nearly every angle. Once they land on your food, they release digestive juices to liquefy it into a predigested to swallow. They feed on faecal matter, discharges from wounds and sores, sputum, and all sorts of moist decaying matter especially spoiled fish, eggs and meat in dumps, sewers, garbage heaps etc.

Since they are not the neatest insects

You can see them annoying, buzzing around you and known to be accountable for a number of diseases and infections. They are suspected of transmitting over 65 diseases, such as cholera, typhoid fever, dysentery, anthrax, tularemia, poliomyelitis and tuberculosis etc.

These flies go through complete metamorphosis i.e. egg, larva, pupa and adult. These flies are always in search of water or humidity, food and shelter. In a shorter period of time, they lay eggs near the food and utensils. They happily eat everything they found on their way during their flights. It is said that during its lifetime, a single female fly can lay up to 500 eggs within 6 batches and is one of the largest groups of insects with over 110,000 known species. To find food and lay eggs sites they have been known to travel as far as 20 miles.

Domestic flies are known as omnivorous pests. They breed both outdoors and indoors mostly in search of smelly and rotten food, garbage and dirty drains in the kitchen and bathroom and other locations.

Be prepared for the presence of larvae

as it is a more vital indicator of their existence. It is observed that some species are not active and move into a secure places like wall or door cracks and crevices. Having a substantial fly infestation in your place means that it is the right time to take some major actions to combat these flights. You should keep your house neat and clean. Removing garbage, and waste on daily basis can help prevent your place from flies.

You should also ensure that the doors and windows are properly sealed, and if there is any it must be repaired. Food should not be left uncovered in the kitchen or the dining area.
