Cracks Down on SSGC Gas Theft While Courts Uphold the Law
Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is taking a multi-pronged approach to combat SSGC gas theft in Sindh and Balochistan.
Catching Culprits Red-Handed
Nawabshah
SSGC’s Anti-Gas Theft Team raided a house in Nawabshah’s Bhangwar Colony and apprehended a culprit stealing gas through underground clamps. This individual was allegedly selling the stolen gas to domestic consumers, causing losses worth millions. The gas supply to houses connected to these illegal connections was disconnected, and the area will be under strict monitoring to prevent future theft.
Nazimabad
Based on a tip-off, SSGC conducted a raid on Al-Habib Sweets and Bakers in Nazimabad. The culprit was found using a direct service line to steal gas. An FIR has been lodged by SSGC Police, and a claim will be raised for the stolen gas.
Karachi
Similar raids were conducted on “Al-Habib Chota Pakwan” in Shah Faisal Colony, where the culprit, Bahar-e-Alam, was stealing gas through a service line.

Legal Repercussions
The Gas Utility Court in Larkana convicted Ghulam Muhammad Magsi for using gas directly for commercial purposes without authorization. He was sentenced and ordered to pay SSGC Rs. 35,634 as compensation for the stolen gas.
Building a Sustainable Future:
While tackling theft is essential, SSGC is also committed to long-term solutions. They are actively investing in infrastructure development projects aimed at ensuring better gas pressure and volume for legitimate consumers. These projects include:
Jhal Magsi Pipeline Project
This project will create a new gas pipeline, increasing overall supply and potentially reducing reliance on existing infrastructure, making it harder for thieves to tap into.

Transmission Pipeline for Karachi’s West Region
This project focuses on expanding the gas supply network in Karachi’s western region, leading to a more reliable and consistent gas supply for residents and businesses.
Upgradation of Sales Meter Stations in Hyderabad, Larkana, and Nawabshah
Modernizing these meter stations will improve gas flow measurement and detection capabilities, potentially leading to swifter identification and prevention of SSGC gas theft.
Modifications at HQ Shikarpur and Sibi Compressor Project
These projects aim to improve the efficiency of the gas distribution network, ensuring better pressure and volume for legitimate consumers.

A Brighter Future for Gas Distribution
SSGC’s multifaceted approach to SSGC gas theft – catching culprits, pursuing legal action, and investing in infrastructure – demonstrates a strong commitment to creating a more efficient and fair gas distribution system in Sindh.
With the combined efforts of SSGC, the national crackdown led by the FIA, and the legal system holding offenders accountable, there’s hope for a brighter future where gas reaches those who need it most, at the pressure and volume they deserve. This will not only benefit households and businesses but also contribute to Pakistan’s overall economic development.
