United Nation Environment Programme (UNEP) has designated Jason Momoa
as an advocate for Life Below Water during the UN Ocean Conference in Lisbon from 27 June to 1 July. The conference was hosted by the United Nations (UN) in collaboration with PVBLIC Foundation and media partners, the SDG Media Zone aims to take the conservation on advancing the sustainable development Goals out of the policy sphere and into the public disclosure. Around 7,000 ocean advocates and other top officials of state and environmental activists participated in the conference. They will make developments in the implementation phase by providing scientific approaches for improved results. This will be aimed to have a managed conservation of the ocean.” Ho

Movie star and ocean activist Momoa “the Aquaman” received the Nature Baton from the UN special envoy Peter Thomson. Since Momoa practically played a very active role to protect the life of the deep.
Momoa explained, “it is one of my “greatest honours, with this designation, I hope to continue my own journey to protect and conserve the ocean and all living things on our beautiful blue planet, for our generation and the generations to come.”
“For me, the ocean is an ancient teacher, a guide and a muse. It is also existential. Without a healthy ocean, life on our planet as we know it would not exist,” he expressed his point of view.
Jason also appreciated his daughters Nakoa-Wolf 13 and Lola Iolani 14 by sharing a picture today at a major conference mobilizing global support for an ocean
Momoa has already exposure to working with Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii and rePurpose Global.
He said, “With this designation, I hope to continue my own journey to protect and conserve the ocean and all living things on our beautiful blue planet, for our generation and the generations to come.”
Momoa is playing a role in the upcoming sequel “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”.

Inger Andersen who is the UNEP’s Executive Director, said, “We are so pleased to have Jason Momoa joining the UN family as UNEP’s Advocate for Life Below Water. Jason has a strong track record of advocating for ocean issues, from reducing single-use plastic pollution to protecting coral reefs,”
“In 2021, the 4 primary measures of climate changes – greenhouse gas concentrations, sea level rise, ocean temperatures and ocean acidification – all hit record highs. This means the time for action is now. With a huge audience of engaged fans, we believe that Jason can move ocean considerations into the hearts and minds of citizens and business leaders to promote this urgency and action,” she added.
Those countries which pledged to join the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment were Australia, Belgium, Ecuador, Ghana, Kenya, Thailand, Vanuatu, and 10 Brazilian states.
