The Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) has appointed Dr. Azhar Rashid as Chief of Oncology Services, strengthening its medical and radiation services across its cancer care network in Karachi and Sukkur.
Dr. Rashid, an experienced clinical and radiation oncologist, holds expertise in medical oncology, radiation oncology, and stereotactic radiosurgery. He holds an MSc in Oncology from the University of Nottingham, UK, and is an FCPS-qualified oncologist.

In his new role, Dr. Rashid will oversee SIUT’s medical and radiation oncology services across its cancer service line, covering facilities from Karachi to Sukkur. He will primarily be based at the Mehrunissa Medical Complex in Karachi. With his extensive experience across multiple domains of oncology, Dr. Rashid will contribute to the further development of cancer treatment services at SIUT, while supporting the institution’s commitment to providing quality healthcare free of cost with dignity and without discrimination.
Dr. Azhar Rashid’s arrival at SIUT marks another milestone in a career defined by breakthrough clinical advancements and visionary leadership. Widely recognized as Pakistan’s first Radiosurgeon, Dr. Rashid introduced the country’s first Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) radiotherapy platform, ushering in a modern era of high-precision radiation treatment. He also authored the country’s largest published patient series on the VMAT technique, solidifying his role as a leading authority in targeted radiation therapies.
Throughout his career, Dr. Rashid has focused on the comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of complex cancers, including lung, breast, skin, and brain malignancies. Combining both medicinal approaches and surgical radiation techniques, he provides personalized treatment plans tailored to patients of all age groups. His patient-first philosophy centers on accessibility, awareness, and delivering world-class care designed specifically around the individual needs of each patient.
In addition to his new appointment at SIUT, Dr. Rashid serves as Director of Clinical & Radiation Oncology, Director of the Linac-based SRS/SBRT Program, Director of the Postgraduate Resident Training Program, Consultant Radiosurgeon, and Director of the Oncology Department at NCCI Hospital, Karachi.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Rashid is a driving force in medical education, research, and institutional reform. In March 2025, he assumed the presidency of the Pakistan Society of Clinical Oncology (PSCO). In his very first year of tenure, he has taken on the dual responsibility of guiding the society while serving as Chair of ONCO 2026 Karachi.
